THE MERRY MARCOS

The author of Angelino and the Barefoot Saint (1961, p.544, J-194) develops a convincing mood here, but has neglected an important element -- plot. The journey from town to town through Italy of the performing Marcos in their brightly painted caravan is a jogging affair, halted by a few mishaps. It is doubtful that the sunny existence of the happy family will sustain the interest of young readers who would be ""merrier"" with more story and less of the pervasive atmosphere.
