THE WINTER AT VALLEY FORGE by Van Wyck Mason

THE WINTER AT VALLEY FORGE

By

Publisher: Random House

A mixture of fact and fiction, by an author with a long record of adult historical fiction, delineates the physical and spiritual trials in the winter of 1777-78. Concise explanations of the British move to capture Philadelphia and of the concurrent colonial manoeuvres, set the stage for Washington's winter retreat to Valley Forge. Among the new colonial recruits are young Gil Weston from Massachusetts and his Micmac Indian friend, Silver Hawk. From then on, the story is theirs and their daring attempts to capture two British supply trains reflect the fall and gradual rise of hope in the dreadful camp.
