ESPECIALLY FOR MOTHER

Vance Hyde recorded her own satisfactions in her daughters in And Everything Nice (1959); here she has compiled an ""Affectionate Anthology"" of verse and shorter pieces reflecting moments and memories dear to a mother's heart. On becoming a mother, on being a mother- or a father, on the first day of school, or flying a kite, on the solidarity of the family scene, etc., etc.- all these sentimental commonplaces have recognition value for the kind of household where Mother is Mama and Father says Son. The literary level is not much higher than the Mother's Day greeting card inscription- the occasion which suggests the most obvious market.
