KIRKUS REVIEW

Boy Scout Troop #22 offered Tom Littlefield enriching friends and experiences. The Hawaiian troop made Tom an honorary member during the vacation the Littlefields spent on the island. A Honolulu hike, a wild pig hunt and an expedition in South Point, were means for Tom to appreciate the beauty of Hawaiian scenery. Too his new friends, Obie and Kimo, made him feel at home. Tom took part in the evacuation of townspeople during a volcanic eruption. Although Tom had to say goodbye to his new friends at Kauai, he said Aloha cheerfully, for his family decided to stay permanently in Honolulu. Uncomplicated plotting and a combination of relatively simple vocabulary and uninvolved sentences make this easy reading within this age group, although a few foreign names may throw halting readers.
