Fisher's mammoth undertaking- the story of mankind through successive levels of emotional development- has reached the period, still in the matriarchal state, when man is beginning to think for himself, to weigh the facts of Nature and Woman, to question tradition. This might well be an amplified and fictionized bit of The Golden Bough, so deeply embedded it is in the legends and superstitions and mores of sex and religion, of custom and manner of life and thought. The story of the conflict for possession of a maiden- of conflict between two women leaders, seers, medicine women- of conflict between male and female- is told in tenuous, burdensome fashion. Frankly, I can't conceive of a sustained market for this series.
