The fourth of the tetralogy (In Tragic Life, Passions Spin the Plot, We Are Betrayed) -- and the one most likely to widen the author's public. In this story, Vridar, after the suicide of Neloa, begins to grow up, emotionally. He discovers his own complexes --takes them out to look at them -- and grows a new crop of intellectual snobbery and intolerance. Athene stands by, through the years of searching, and at the close he marries her and takes her home. There is still Fisher's apparently inescapable quota of smut -- 'ware your conservatives.
