A LUCKY NUMBER

A busy chronicle -- of a Canadian family -- bustles happily in its anecdotes of mother, father, the girls and assorted neighbors and relatives. The complications of mother's liking men, her fondness for smuggling her decision to bob her hair, her fling at horseracing, her debut as an actress, her fondness for unorthodox repairs, make her no idle threat, while the variety of other incidents:- father's hydreponic gardening (in the bathtub), a maid's marriage to an America, the coffin in the attic, an old man with his third set of teeth, a murder attempt, uncles that traveled or swore, an aunt that could only bake cakes, etc., etc.- keep the pace moving. Easy, amiable entertainment.
