The sort of adventure we'd all love to have materializes for Mark, Nora and Toby during a summer of sailing on Long Island Sound. When their father gives them a sloop, the kids are thrilled and busy with all the projects that go with boat owning- but they function under strict orders to stay in the bay. Then comes a storm and with it Mark's decision, while they are out in the boat, that the open waters of the Sound are their only means of safety. Blown away, they land on an island, discover some drug smugglers and return to their reward from the authorities and just praise for being true sailors at last. Realistically written, this has the humor and homeliness that makes the adventure believable. Smart line drawings by Frederick Henning. For 8 - 11's too.
