GLORIOUS TRIUMPHS: Athletes Who Conquered Adversity

A scrapbook of adversity overcome by a group of undoubtedly courageous men and two ladies. Many of these athletes faced poverty; some race prejudice; others effects of crippling diseases and accidents. Most of the subjects are still living, either active in sports or in good works. The author covers a number of sports including bullfighting (which celebrates the feats of Manolete). From Barney Ross through Walt Davis, these are all remarkable men. As for the ladies Althea Gibson and the one and only Babe also had what it takes to scramble the signals. Unfortunately the author premeasures these tales to the Sunday supplement. This gallant group deserves a bit more heart and spirit.
