Mr. Quinn and Marie Lawson have combined on previous books (Seeds, Leaves) but this is the most practical, and perhaps the most interesting. In alphabetical arrangement, the familiar shrubs (most of the old-fashioned ones, under old- fashioned names) are presented, with botanical facts, carefully blended with value in practical use, locality, description, and legends associated with them. I found myself taking notes on all sorts of things, and I'm promising myself some further investigations in the nearest nursery, for Connecticut favorites.
