SOUTHEAST OF ZAMBOANGA

A simply but effectively told story of the author's attempt to realize a dream of living in the South Seas and making a fortune by raising coconuts. He unreels his never ending disillusionments, -- deserted by his partner, he lives alone in the bush on the island of Mindanao, tries to conquer his growing fears, his loneliness, his ill health, but fails. After a year of constant vigilance against inner agonies and outward pests of snakes, spiders, fever and natives, he throws in his hand. Max Miller writes the introduction; the book bears, in style, some resemblance to Miller's own.
