A brief look at motion and gravity, with a nod to the theories and experiments of Ptolemy, Copernicus, Newton, and Galileo. The author poses such perennial questions as: ""If the earth is spinning, why don't we feel it move?"" In this case, the discussion that follows includes an experiment the reader can do and reference to Newton's first law of motion. The humorous asides that accompany the questions sometimes seem forced, but may encourage marginally motivated readers: ""If the earth is spinning like a top, why isn't everything loose thrown off into space?""; ""What does this have to do with me? I'm only interested in rides that get me someplace."" Good for piquing curiosity.
