PAJAMA WALKING

Recalling another friendly visit in Artis' Brown Mouse and Vole (1975), this has human friends Clara and her more timid overnight guest Bessie sharing a messy bedroom, picknicking with Clara's pets, engaging in a cute conversation over nail polish, mixing toothpaste with chocolate chips, and, finally, bundled together in Clara's dad's pajamas, bumping and sliding downstairs in the night until Dad finds them giggling over spilled milk on the kitchen floor. The episodes are a little too pat and the author's attitude a little too close to adult amusement, though Clara's propensity for disorder supplies some mild horrification.
