BURDEN OF PROOF

This is Peter Barlow's search to prove his innocence of the murder of James Gurney Hansford who had ruined his father by blackmail and for whose death he has been Jailed. Aided in his prison escape from Parkhurst, on the Isle of Wight, by his friend, brain surgeon Ross-Piper, he finds a companion in Catherine Swinton, carries her with him in his relentless pursuit of the truth which leads him into counterfeiting on a grand scale in the last war; makes him, even in his assumed identity, a man marked for murder; introduces him to some strange loyalties, and, ending in Wales, faces him with his nemesis...The hunt and chase in which the quarry is the pursuer makes for cliff hanging of a superior, acrobatic sort.
