Quetzal Quest was a juvenile, published last year. This is the factual record back of that story. A quetzal is a rare bird with brilliant plumage, and Dr. Von Hagen and his wife went to Honduras in search of one, commissioned by several zoos. They succeed in catching some baby birds and shipping them successfully. Then they turn their attention to the ""lost tribes"", primitive people of whom almost nothing is known. They are known as the Jicaques. Von Hagen visits them in their homes, and writes this record of their characteristics and customs and beliefs. Homeward -- bound, with a stopover to visit the Mayan cities. This has good elements for popularity among those who are interested in jungle creatures and armchair exploration.
