AMERICAN PARTICIPATION IN THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL

This valuable collection brings together for the first time all of the pronouncements or ""interventions"" by the American hierarchy at Vatican II. In addition, each decree and constitution of the Council is reproduced in full, with pertinent commentaries by various authorities and historical introductions by Father Yzermans. The value of this collection lies in the contribution it makes toward an understanding of the important role played by American representatives at the Council; so far as the conciliar documents themselves are concerned (i.e., the decrees and constitutions), the book is inferior to Documents of Vatican II (Herder & Herder) by reason of the variable quality of the introductions and commentaries, and the latter work is, from that standpoint, superior to the present one. Moreover, despite the value of having a record of American conciliar efforts in one volume, the high--not to say exorbitant--price of this work will place it beyond the reach of most interested individuals and of many institutions.
