A rather exceptional story of an apparently nerveless girl, her passion for horses, and the accident-prone profession to which it led- a diving horse act- from a watertower- from the time when, at 19, her mother answered an ad to join a Dr. Carver's carnival. Carver himself, an impressive figure out of the West, 84 and autocratic, taught her the business and she was more of a daughter to him than his own until his death at 87. Marrying his son, Al, they brought the act up to Atlantic City where a dive resulted in the detachment of her retinas- and total blindness, at 27. With even more courage now, she became altogether self-sufficient, adjusted to her sightlessness, and returned to the act- riding blind for 11 years and refusing to let the fact be known to the public....It's quite a story, and along with its special sphere of human interest, commands admiration.
