THOMAS JEFFERSON, FATHER OF DEMOCRACY

This calm yet vibrant biography of Jefferson is possibly the best that has been written so far for the age group. With a firm grip on his subject and his young audience fully in mind, Mr. Sheean brings all of his talents to play in his well ordered, colorful relating- of Jefferson as a student who fortunately had the time to spend on developing the thoughts dear to him, as a young lawyer thrilled by the words of Patrick Henry and inspired to carry the revolution to its highest ideals, as the statesman who fought a snobbish aristocracy that would have weakened the American democratic spirit. Superb analysis of the man and the personalities and issues with which he dealt.
