MANY PORTS OF CALL

Violet Haven inherited an itching foot from her Irish father, and outdid him in her restless speedings from one part of the world to the other. Her life makes good reading, for the armchair traveler with a bias towards the Far East, for it is in the Orient that she finds herself most deeply rooted. Her childhood, acquiring an education against odds; her teaching jobs, which took her to Hawaii and to Japan; and journalism -- with intervals outside -- which took her round the world and back.
