THE BIRTH OF LIBERTY: The story of the James River

Certainly a natural selection for the James River area (one of the chief rivers of Virginia) this describes the activities on its water and banks since before Revolutionary days to its present use as a harbor for the National Defense Reserve Fleet. The Revolution, the War of 1812 and the Civil War are part of James River history. Further color is added by Blackboard the Pirate's attendance to its traffic. Along the banks, places like Jamestown and Richmond provide a setting for a huge cast of historically prominent figures from John Smith through Patrick Henry and McClelland. Not at all a dry river history, this may nevertheless find only its regional market in terms of reader or teacher interest.
