KIRKUS REVIEW

The text is too difficult for the subject and pictures. It is a variation on the old legend of animals kneeling before the Virgin on Christmas Eve. In this instance the skunk, the rabbit, the coyote and wolf meet in peace before a shrine on the American prairie. Two children, their father and an Austrian girl hear the miracle of speech come to these beasts.
