An investigation- for the general reader- perhaps in greater detail than he will care to purnue- of the potential radiation hazards, more as a public health problem than as an international menace. The authors concentrate to a large extent on the misuse-and overuse- of radiation in medical practice, both diagnostically and therapeutically, pointing out the still incomplete knowledge of dose rate and effect, often delayed for many years. The physiological damage to tissue and the cancers caused rather than cured; the danger to children now- and the next generations to come; radioactive poisons, atomic accidents, and the bomb test fall-out are all part of this study which ends with a plea for better radiation control.... Although the authors exaggerate professional- and to a certain extent the public's- unawareness of this problem, perhaps this additional alert is necessary.
