KIRKUS REVIEW

For the ninth time (she has already travelled through Scotland, Spain, England, Germany, France, Norway, Ireland and Russia in eight previous volumes) Virginia Haviland demonstrates her ability to retell old tales, and in the process, to add vividness to the simplicity and clarity which already exist. The easy rhythm of the sentences in these six unusual tales will be appreciated especially by the storytellers (they are also geared to an advanced beginning reader). Artistic illustrations in muted shades of red and green have the elements of action and discovery which onlookers always enjoy.
