THE TECHNIQUES OF BASKETRY by Virginia I. Harvey

THE TECHNIQUES OF BASKETRY

By

Pub Date: Sept. 1st, 1978
Publisher: Van Nostrand Reinhold

A more ambitious starter than Sherry DeLeon's The Basketry Book (p. 745) but beginners with natural talent will really want to try these numerous examples of coiling, twining, plaiting, wicker, and splintwork. Showing baskets from many cultures and for many uses as well as some of the wacky designs of modern weavers, Harvey's selection runs from simple types, such as the Ethiopian winnowing basket, to the whimsical--a hanging, freeish-form strawberry of rug wools and jute. And for the enterprising devotee, schematic diagrams follow the 31 sequential steps of the Mad Weave. We could wish for better quality on some of the reproductions but the actual choices are handsome.
