A bright, but not toujours gai account of a two year stay in the Colombian jungle, as the author's husband Steve, doctor on the staff of an American exploratory oil company, took his new bride with him. With a modern three room house, five servants, and plumbing on the plus side, there were also the steady irritants of the climate which were down your looks, teeth and morals, the insects that made the days a perpetual itch. Here were the many interests she found, in her husband's dispensary, in trips through the jungle, in the Colombian citizenry, in assisting at an emergency appendectomy; some of the minor and major excitements, from the snake in her jewelry box to the poison gas at one of the wells, the disappearance of the local lorelei, the knifing of a native. Her own session with malaria brought on a trip to the mountains, then a festive time in Bogota... A personal record which is light, slight and engaging.
