SWIRLING SANDS

In learning to break the tie which binds her to a conventional Eastern life, Corey Allison finds among the Arizona Navajos a new dimension and meaning to her life. Forced by her father's asthma condition to assume the life of a trader's daughter, Corey bitterly misses her fashionable Eastern friends and resents the strange Indians by whom she is suddenly surrounded. But the pure beauty of the desert and the compassion which these genuine people draw from her have their effect and ultimately Corey, now an adult, realizes that here in a community of sound values, she has found not only her home, but herself. There is something a little pat about Corey's development, which leans, perhaps, too strongly on the deification of ""the simple people leading the good life"". Still, there is much here that is sound and the underlying statement of the book is a serious one.
