DEATH IN WILLOW PATTERN

The imperturbable Dr. Pym is asked to investigate the estate of a man who had once indulged his de Sadian tastes by kidnapping, mutilating and murdering young girls. Now, generations later, his descendants are faced with a barrage of anonymous letters holding them responsible for the disappearance of two village girls. The family does have its eccentricities and when combined with hypnotism, a penchant for the Orient, revealing diaries and a secret room under a lake, the story assumes an irresistible gothic gloss.
