JONATHAN'S FRIENDS by W. B. Park

JONATHAN'S FRIENDS

By

Pub Date: Sept. 12th, 1977
Publisher: Putnam

A particularly spurious piece of wistful thinking, wherein young Michael lectures younger Jonathan on ""the truth of make believe""--that fairies, elves, Halloween ghosts and witches, the Easter Bunny and even Santa Claus ""aren't really real."" Michael never sees the space behind and around him filling up with the very creatures he debunks--but Jonathan, wiser in his innocence, is shown at the end with the lot of them, riding off in Santa's airborne sleigh. Trite as the idea is, it is further weakened by the fact that Park's insipid pastel backgrounds are as unreal as his ""make believe"" cast.
