THE FATHERHOOD OF GOD

By

Publisher: Scribner

If Doctor Selbie has any sins to answer for, they will be for preaching on Theology so entertainingly that he packed Mansfield Chapel at every service with the members of other Oxford congregations. Senior Oxford as well as undergraduates succumbed to the spell of this wiry little man of such tremendous vision. To capture the sparkle of such a faith is difficult, to incorporate it in a book on Theology is certainly not easy and yet here it is. A sound book but not a stodgy one. The pages are full of names like Barth, Group movement, Otto, Whitehead, Inge and Grensted but the balance is never lost. Sanely and evenly each theory is weighed. Crisis Theology is placed, Das Heilige credited as Otto's point of view on another question. The Groups accepted as far as they go, but always there is the searching light of a brilliant mind carrying the reader on to a deeper understanding of the Fatherhood of God.
