These reminiscences are as wholesome as the Indiana farm boyhood from which they derive and return to the time when Grammaw came to stay with them and called him Hu-Bruce and his brother Bru-Hubert to avoid any confusion. Among the episodes you will meet up with peach-tree ""tea"", canning feuds, the effect of Tom Samyer on the pumpkin patch, Grammaw's encounter with the roaring but craven bull who ate underwear, and her uncomfortable party which was enlivened by a new mother cat. Animal friends such as old Nelly, a horse, who brought Grammaw home safely though driven with crossed lines, and Joseph, the cat of many colors, who sacrified his life to save baby Wilson from a copperhead, add sentiment to a fond sketch which, while of familiar dimensions still is light and pleasant. Mostly for rural readers.
