ANGER AT INNOCENCE

Returning through the rain to the warehouse where he is night-watchman, Ted catches, but releases, Rodina as she attempts to pick his pocket. She returns to see him on a subsequent night, and from then on they engage in a futile and doomed affair, played out in the lost little back allays of the South Philadelphia slums. Juarez, a nieghbor of Rodin's, pockmarked, wizened and hate filled after a childhood echoed with the calls of ""Mex"" and ""Hpick"", serves as a for the leading characters whose thoughts he voices in a prose worthy of a Marvard graduate. The morning after Juarez has impelled Ted and Rodina into an incident of gunplay and blood-letting that ends their hopeless liaison, Juares is found hung in his nearby room. As in Last of the Conquerors there is the same concern with the victims of prejudice and poverty, the intensity which is often uncontrolled.
