THE OXFORD BOOK OF LIGHT VERSE

This is a very interesting anthology. It contains a great deal of material not easily accessible elsewhere. It omits material that might be expected in such a collection. Imagine, for instance, such a collection without a single poem from Alice. However, there is so much that is good that we can forgive the omissions. Some folk material, nursery rhymes, etc. Occasionally versions differ from accepted ones. Begins with pre-Chaucerian Song of Lewes and continues chronologically ending with Betjeman.
