KIRKUS REVIEW

I am afraid this is too English for extensive use here. Where books on flower gardens seem to be inspiring and suggestive, even though based on English climatic conditions and temperature, the same does not seem quite so true of shrubs and vines. The viewpoint in this book is somewhat controversial; the exclusive use of scientific terminology will be confusing to all except trained gardeners, for the old familiar names of shrubs of our grandmothers' gardens seem conspicuously absent. Two thirds of the book is for reference purposes wholly, with an alphabetical list of climbers, shrubs, etc., with brief descriptive matter, locale, conditions under which grown and season when in flower.
