THE DARK COMMAND

Against the restless, turbulent background of the struggle for Kansas just before the Civil War -- North against South, Kansas versus Missouri, Free Soilers, Abolitionists and terrorist forces, a battleground all its own, there is told the story of a youth and a girl and of the dramatic blackguard who came into their lives and of the part they played in determining Kansas status in the Union. The substance of drama is there, but the story seems thin in the telling. However, Burnett has a reliable following for sales and rentals.
