The author is a painter of some note and this is his story of the Akeley trip, on which he was official recorder of the settings for the animal groups in the long-dreamed of project in the Museum of Natural History. After Akeley's death he went on a later trip to finish the work. Tells of the plans for the various groups, the trips involved, the parts of Africa visited. Keen observation and a painter's delight in the scenery gives it a special flavor. A tribute to Akeley's genius and another angle on African travel. Good reading for African enthusiasts and those interested in hunting with a purpose. Not a routine adventure story -- nor yet merely another facet of the Akeley material, for his slant is a fresh one.
