This is the first in the series entitled America at Work. A dull title -- and not too interesting a method of presenting the facts about the dairy industry in this country. Historical background of dairying, developments in types of cattle, kinds of dairy farms, modern methods of handling milk, laboratories, standards, and so on. One could wish it had been approached from the angle of the Progressive Schools -- leading from the child's own interests to the abstract. As it stands, the facts are there, but there is no incentive in manner of presenting them to lead the young reader into following the text through, except to obtain definite information. Likewise, one regrets the omission of the facts about the geographical distribution of dairy farming, the methods of distribution, etc.
