ELEPHANTS

There seems to be a lure about elephants that should make this one of the favorite books of the year. The illustrations by Irene B. Robinson rival anything she has done -- lovely soft blacks and whites and grays, beautifully reproduced, double spreads, full pages and half pages. The text matter is straight factual information -- historical origins, the fetishes and superstitions that have grown up around the elephants, their varied uses, the elephants of zoo and circus, the rogue elephants, and so on. By the author of Animals in the Sun, etc.
