A SURVEY OF THE OLD TESTAMENT

This book is called a college text for Old Testament study--but is such only on an introductory level. It retells the story of the Old Testament in modern language, and places it in its proper historical and cultural setting. It shows the broad sweep of Hebrew history through which the Hebrews were led to a knowledge of God and His will. As an introductory course to the Bible, or as a readily useful book for Sunday School teachers it should prove to be of considerable value. There is a Scripture reading assignment at the beginning of each chapter, review questions at the end, and a supplemental reading list. The author, Dr. William W. Sloan is Professor of Bible and Religious Education at Elon College, Elon, North Carolina. Eighteen years of teaching Old Testament to college freshmen have prepared him to write such an introduction to the Old Testament.
