LABOR AND THE PUBLIC INTEREST by W. Willard Wirtz

LABOR AND THE PUBLIC INTEREST

Pub Date: Oct. 14th, 1964

The importance of this collection of public addresses by our Secretary of Labor lies in the fact that they epitomize his personal and official relationship to labor through Collective Bargaining, the Goals and Morals of Labor Unions, Discrimination, Unemployment, Education, and Automation and Manpower Problems. Wirtz, a one-time law associate of Adlai Stevenson, shares Stevenson's gift for expressing himself forcefully, directly, purposefully. Since he succeeded Arthur Goldbergow Justice of the Supreme Court- he has proven himself an outstanding Labor Secretary in his handling of many delicate and troublesome strikes. Idealism bracketed with a practical turn of mind come through clearly in these speeches, made to colleges, business groups, labor groups and Congressional committees.
