ALL KINDS OF DOGS by Walter Chndoha

ALL KINDS OF DOGS

By

Publisher: Knopf

Companion volume to the successful All Kinds of Cats, but somehow not quite as irresistible. Granted that dogs have more admirers than cats -- perhaps the multiplicity of dog books makes the fans more critical. Some of these photographs are utterly beguiling, imaginative, unusual. But the selection of text to accompany the photographs, while apt, seems often too studied. Start with an Ogden Nash- but then the inclusion of Swift and Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Stevenson and Lear -- well, it just hits between two markets, the one very literary, the other-dog lovers. The factual content on different types of dogs, done by the photographer, is more successful.
