THE COLLECTED TALES OF WALTER DE LA MARE

24 short stories by the English master of fantasy, chosen and with an introduction by Edward Wagenknecht. The introduction wastes no time on biographical material available elsewhere, and is concerned with a sympathetic appraisal of de la Mare's literary position, the philosophical value of his mysticism, the virtue of imagination both as a literary tool and a means of perceiving reality. Mr. Wagenknecht's admiration has not cloyed his discrimination and the selections here make clear the remarkable singleness of his vision. Short stories only, none of the poetry and no excerpts from longer prose works.
