KIRKUS REVIEW

These will be welcome to those whose affectionate remembrance of Peacock Pie and Songs of Childhood has been disappointed in recent verse from Walter de la Mare. For here are poems in the earlier tradition, poems seemingly closer to childhood interest and appreciation, poems of gay and friendly mien which challenge small readers to make them their own. Not altogether even in quality or appeal, so best read aloud to youngsters until they make their own choices.
