THE MAGIC OF PAPER

Pub Date: Feb. 23rd, 1966

Another excellent title in the author/illustrator's basic industry series. The history of the manufacturing processes for paper begins with the ancient Chinese reduction of fibrous materials to a floating lint that could be collected on chain molds. It ends with the explanations of the machinery in the huge mills of today, still working on refinements of the original formula and methods. In between, there is a survey history of each of the advances over the handmade beginnings. There is also a discussion of the various ways paper has been and is being used with the immediate prospects outlined--paper clothing, paper cooking utensils and suburban houses of reinforced papers.
