Clovis is a trying little joke close to a snigger about a junior joyboy who has had a most active pubescence. At the moment when the book opens, and only a little bit later closes, he's in the hospital temporarily incapacitated with one of his legs in traction. He looks back on his willing experiences with Diana, an older friend of the family (whose husband sues her for divorce thereafter); with the equally mature Lady Beanswold; and several of his contemporaries, coveted byes older brother Edgar who doesn't do as well in this area which is the only one under consideration. The humor mostly comes down to the single entendre of just about every remark ..... Even if youth in this case is not wasted on the young, don't you have anything better to do?
