Random annotations of a trip to Iceland in letters in either prose or verse, running commentary in one line paragraphs on all and sundry, jingles, proverbs, brief notes. The supposed topic is dealt with in a few lines on the country, people, currency, transportation, food, etc., but most of it is concerned with whatever Auden or MacNelce happen to remember or imagine, or want to say about their contemporaries in all walks of life. Cleverness with occasional vulgarity -- a feeling of show-offishness -- a certain galety.
