Mr. Wilwerding is noted for his portraits of wildlife for outdoor magazines. His work has often adorned their covers. Full page, full color paintings of each East African animal he describes precedes the short accounts of the animal's habits. The African names for the wild life are used throughout and the text is written around the moments that reveal the animal's nature and capabilities. Thus, we have the jackal outguessing the hyena on a trip back to his den; the lion hunting his rey; the baby hippo lost and found, etc.
