KIRKUS REVIEW

Whether read independently by upper elementary graders or enjoyed by younger listeners, these st have an old fashioned appeal characteristic of Walter de la Mare's prose. Though magical phenomena abound, they usually happen to very real people like Admiral whose magic jacket helps with ""the steepish hit of hill"" initiating ""every walk is life"". There is John Humps first mate on The Old Lion; and Alice's venerable godmother, in all, ten delightful stories each a happy of the s and the down to earth. The Sati, The R The Visitors and are among them.
