THE NEW IMPERATIVE

This slim book includes two articles:- the first, a study of a ""permanent New Deal"" and the factors that were already incorporated as elements of government common to both the Roosevelt and the Hoover Administration, but which are generally looked upon as recent innovations; the second, a frank discussion of the lack of tradition to pass on to the coming generation, and the need for balance between liberty and government authority. Lippmann has a wide public, through his syndicated feature articles. This book crystallizes some of the lessons he has been preaching these months past.
