WHERE DOES THE DAY GO?

Following Steven's question to his Daddy, an exchange of views among the (polyglot) children he's taken to the park and then a terse explanation--not much grist for a picture book (they ""sit on the grass and talk about it"") but, in the conjectures of the youngsters, some refreshing outreach: Karen imagines the day breaking up into little pieces that become. . . ""The stars!"" while Kiku remembers it sinking into the sea; but ""then it would keep the fishes awake,"" counters Karen. And so it goes until, homeward bound at dusk, they learn that ""somewhere it's daytime right now,"" here it's time to go to bed ""so that you can be ready for the day when it's our turn."" A supportive little book (with a wise black Daddy) though somewhat static.
