Simon the rat, in yet another attempt to in rebellion by devious means on the Bean farm and in surrounding tracts of land, rouses Freddy to those detective and protective measures which have endeared him to a long line of readers. The first inkling of the revolution comes with the vague rumor that the rabbit Mr. 6's disappearance two years ago was nefariously planned by the Beans. Coupled with this is the fact that the rats have begun to meet again in the old excavated cellar hole- and the fight is on. Freddy's adventuring and politickings, his eventual quashing of the upstart rodents, mock some incidents we can think of in real life and form a pleasant expression of enlightened conservatism.
